Interview with Mørland: Our song is about facing your inner demons

Good Evening Europe talked to Kjetil Mørland, who will represent Norway along with Debrah Scarlett in Eurovision Song Contest 2015 with the song “A monster like me”.

Good Evening Europe: First of all congratulations on being selected as Norway’s representatives in Eurovision Song Contest 2015! What does it mean to you to represent Norway?

It’s a great honour for us. We never expected to get this far. It’s only a few days till we head off to Vienna – can’t wait!

Good Evening Europe: Could you introduce us to your your musical careers so far, and what has been you biggest (musical) achievements?

I’ve been the front man and songwriter of the British band Absent Elk for a good few years. We released the album ‘Caught in the Headlights’ and did a lot of touring around the UK, including support tours for bands like The Script, Keane and Girls Aloud where we played arenas like the O2 in London. It was a very exciting time shared with some of my best friends.

Good Evening Europe: Can you tell us a little about your song “A monster like me” and the rather dark lyrics of the song, and what is the message?

A Monster Like Me is to me about facing your inner demons and coming to terms with who you are and your mistakes. None of us are perfect and it’s very human to have some baggage you’re not proud of. Sometimes these things can weigh on us and bring us down, maybe even ruin our relationship with the people we love.

Good Evening Europe: Mørland, why was Debrah the perfect singer for “A monster like me”?

has just the kind of character in her voice that I was after. A fragility that really resonates with the mood in the song. I’m very glad she wanted to join me.

Good Evening Europe: You music video ends up in a foodfight – What’s that about 🙂 ?

Well, the idea was that whatever we spiked the champaign with at the start of the video would bring out the monster in our guests and let the seemingly perfect facade fall. But we realised that we wanted to keep the video quite open to interpretation and like the song itself, a bit mysterious. So that’s why it hasn’t really got a clear chronological story as such.

Good Evening Europe: And how was the shooting of the video 🙂 ? Did you get enough of flying food by the end of the shoot?

It was a great day. We’d gathered lots of friends to help and my cousin directed it. Everyone did such an amazing job and we owe them a big favour!

Good Evening Europe: Can you reveal a little bit about your stage performance in Vienna?

It will be music focused, simplistic, dramatic and timeless

Good Evening Europe: Are the two of you working on any new projects besides Eurovision?

Yes, we’re both working on our own material, but now all the focus is on us as a duo. We’re doing more shows together this summer and what happens after Eurovision is all out in the open. Watch this space!;)

Good Evening Europe: Do you watch Eurovision and could you reveal your favorite(s) from the history of the contest?

Eurovision is a bit of a new world to me. I never realised it was this huge! I watched all of last years show though and thought the audience did a good job in selecting the winner. It’s a great song performed by an artist with lots of charisma. I also enjoyed the song from the Netherlands.

OGAE afstemning 2015 – Her er vinderen ifølge fansene!

De sidste stemmer blev idag afgivet i årets OGAE-afstemning, hvor fans fra fanklubberne kårer en vinder, forud for at det hele bliver alvor, når prøverne skydes i gang i Wiener Stadthalle imorgen mandag.

41 OGAE-klubber har stemt og de 2 bookmaker favoritter Italien og Sverige gjorde det relativt tidligt klart, at sejren skulle findes blandt dem. Det blev italienske Il Volo, som løb med sejren med 367 points foran Sverige med 338 points. I Top 5 sluttede også Estland, Norge og Slovenien.

Det blev desværre ikke til points til Danmark, som således endte på en delt 27. plads.

Interview with Bojana from Serbia: “You are beautiful, different and you are here”

Good Evening Europe talked to Bojana Stamenov, who will represent Serbia in Eurovision Song Contest 2015 with the song “Beauty Never Lies”.

Good Evening Europe: First of all congratulations on being selected to represent Serbia in Eurovision Song Contest 2015! How did you react, when you were named winner of the show and what does it mean to you to participate in Eurovision?

It was really amazing and it meant a lot to me. My dream come true and big responsibility and sense of pride to be selected by your own country to present it.

Good Evening Europe: Could you introduce yourself to our readers – including your style and musical influences?

My father is a musician and he recognized that talent. He referred me to the music, and when I found my way, he let me wheel. The biggest inspiration for practicing music is love of music, in my case, singing. I’m more focused on blues, jazz and funky. Aretha Franklin inspires me.

Good Evening Europe: The name of your entry is “Beauty never lies” – Can you tell us about the message of the song – and why you decided to sing in English?

It’s time to say out loud with me, to yourself and others, that you are beautiful, different and that you are here. I believe that singing song in English this year, is great news, because the whole world will be able to understand it. “Molitva“ was performed in 2007 in the Serbian language, but since then much has changed. Now is the time for the song in English.

Good Evening Europe: Can you reveal a little bit about your plans for the staging and song presentation in Vienna?

I don’t want to reveal the details, but I can tell you that it will be very interesting.

Good Evening Europe: We have seen you perform in these amazing, glamorous and colorful dresses. What does fashion mean to you and are you preparing a special surprise costume for Vienna?

Like every woman, love to look nice. Cheerful colors is my choice always. Let’s wait May 19 and you will see.

Good Evening Europe: Your entry is composed by Vladimir Graić, who wrote Serbia’s winning entry in 2007 and has English lyrics by Charlie Mason, who among other co-wrote “Rise like a Phoenix” for Conchita last year. Does that put a special pressure on you?

Charlie Mason has done great work last year. Its not pressure for me, I will try to justify the trust of the people who elected me.

Good Evening Europe: How would you like people to remember you and your entry after Eurovision?

Would like people to remember me by my good energy and positive thoughts.

Good Evening Europe: If you could chose from all the Eurovision songs in the history of the show, which one would you pick for yourself (to sing) and why?

My choice would be „Where are you“ by Imaani or „Waterloo“ ABBA.

Good Evening Europe: Have you followed Eurovision in recent years and which Serbian entry is your favorite?

Sure, ever since I can remember, in my house the Eurovision was the special event. My favorite is „Molitva“ by Marija Serifovic.

Good Evening Europe: Are you working on any new projects besides Eurovision?

After Eurovision I will be able to working on new projects.

Biography

Bojana Stamenov has been singing since she was seven. She attended three sections in the secondary music school – guitar, lute and renaissance singing. In 2012 she was one of the finalist of “Serbia’s Got Talent”. In Serbia, she is often presented as the Serbian Aretha Franklin.

She cannot imagine her life without music. She doesn’t like solitude, which is why she tries to spend as much time as possible with her loved ones. If everyone is busy, Bojana knits and crochets, and also loves to cook.

She loves to travel and, in the future, she would like to visit France because of art and food, Ireland because of landscapes and beer, and America because of everything: blues, cowgirls, bikers, Chicago, musicals, Las Vegas.

Interview with The Makemakes from Austria: “Stay yourself and enjoy what you do”

Good Evening Europe talked to The Makemakes, winner of the Austrian Final “Wer singt für Österreich” and the representative of Austria at the upcoming Eurovision Song Contest in Vienna.

Good Evening Europe: First of all congratulations on being selected to represent Austria in Eurovision Song Contest 2015! How did you react when you were named winner of the national Final?

Thank you very much. We were stoked, couldnt believe it first. Then we felt great.

Good Evening Europe: The name of your band is Makemakes. What’s the story behind the name and why did you chose it?

There’s a cool little planet named Makemake. He is part of the process of finding our bandname.

Good Evening Europe: Could you introduce us to your musical career so far – and what have been you biggest (musical) achievements?

Dodo and Flo met at musicschool when they were childs. A few years later the two of them met Max and they founded a band. Long before they became The Makemakes. Our big musical achievement so far is our album, being released in the next days!

Good Evening Europe: How would you describe your musical style and who are your musical influences?

We rock. We are influenced by the 60’s, 70’s and even 80’s. We like Jimi Hendrix, Bill Withers, The Stones, Oldies and hairspray.

Good Evening Europe: How does it feel to follow in the footsteps of last year’s winner Conchita Wurst – The “Queen of Austria” ?

Feels great. There could be no greater honor than representing the own country at the song contest when being hosted by the own country.

Good Evening Europe: The name of your entry is “I am yours”. What is the message of the song and does the song differ from your “usual” music repertoire?

Well our songs are different to each other. You cannot judge the Makemkaes by one song. You need to listen to all of them to get a glimpse of who we are.

Good Evening Europe: Can you reveal a little bit about your plans for the staging and song presentation in Vienna?

There will be a piano 😉

Good Evening Europe: At Eurovision the music must be playback. As a real rock band would you have preferred to play live?

Sure! But we will a few days later when we tour through Eastern Europe with One Republic.

Good Evening Europe: Are you working on any projects besides Eurovision?

Of course! Our first album and we already are working on the next!

Good Evening Europe: Do you have any favorites from the contest?

We like the Finns. They love music, they love what they do and that reminds us of ourselves

DQ gør comeback med singlen “All with love”

Tilbage i 2007 vandt DQ, med det borgerlige navn Peter Andersen, Dansk Melodi Grand Prix med sangen ‘Drama Queen’ og repræsenterede efterfølgende Danmark i Eurovision Song Contest.
Peter startede sin karriere i Tina Turner Tribute Bandet “Turn on Tina” i 1997, med hvem han har givet utallige koncerter på festivaler i både Danmark og i udlandet. De seneste 8 år har han fortrinsvis optrådt med sit eget “one woman dragshow”. Samtidig er Peter også frontfigur i bandet “Michael Jackson Tribute”, som spiller rundt i hele landet til diverse fester og festivaler.

Et popnummer med et godt budskab

8 år efter DQ’s sidste internationale udspil, udkom idag DQ’s nye single ‘All with love’, som er single forløberen for det kommende album. I en pressemeddelelse fortæller den farverige sanger:

” ‘All With Love’ er et popnummer med et godt budskab, som jeg synes er vigtig at få frem”

Imorgen aften giver DQ en eksklusiv optræden med premieren på ‘All With Love’ samt en smagsprøve på det kommende album på natklubben G-A-Y Copenhagen i København. Herefter flyver Peter til Grand Canaria, hvor han er et af hovednavnene på den populære Maspalomas Gay Pride.

Selvom det er 8 år siden, at DQ sidst udgav et internationalt album, så er de farverige kjoler og fjerpragten langt fra lagt på hylden. Ved sidste års Eurovision Song Contest i København havde DQ den prestigefyldte rolle som værtinde på den officielle Eurovision natklub EuroClub i Vega.

“Det var fantastisk at være en del at dette spektakulære event igen, og at synge sangene, som vi alle elsker, sammen med fans og delegationer”

DQ er allerede nu booket til adskillige optrædener i Europa i løbet af sommeren:

“Henover sommeren skal jeg optræde ved flere Eurovision-relaterede events. Jeg kan slet ikke vente med at synge mine nye sange for Eurovision-publikummet”.

Israel: Nadav Guedj præsenterer det officielle remix af “Golden boy”

Artisten bag årets Eurovision partyhit er klar med et officiel remix af “Golden boy”. Der er selvfølgelig tale om israelske Nadav Guedj. I en pressemeddelelse fortæller Nadav at han er “planning to conquer Europe’s Dance floor by releasing the remix for his song ‘Golden boy’”.

Det officielle remix er lavet i samarbejde med DJ og producer Yinon Yahel, som tidligere har arbejdet med superstjerner som P.Diddy og Madonna , samt DJ og producer Offer Nissim.

Det nye remix forener sangens originale stil – et mix af moderne pop, R&B og det populære mellemøstlige etniske beat – med nye friske house toner og elektroniske beats.

Interview with Knez from Montenegro: “We should all be proud of who we are and where we come from”

Good Evening Europe talked to Knez, this year’s montenegrin representative.

Good Evening Europe: First of all congratulations on being selected as Montenegro’s representative in Eurovision Song Contest 2015 – What does it mean to you to represent your country ?

Knez: It is one of my wishes, to represent Montenegro in Eurovision Song Contest. Years back, I was competing in national selection with song Navika, but I didn’t win obviously. I believe that Eurovision is a dream of many musicians. So when RTCG called me months ago to take part, somehow I expected that call but I was really happy it happened now.

Good Evening Europe: You are a big star in your home country and in the Balkans, but in Denmark we are not so familiar with your music. Could you introduce yourself to our readers – including your music style and musical influences?

Knez: Sure. I am into regional ex YU music scene for more than 20 years now. My father, Mili Knezevic, was a musician and composer, so he introduced me to the magical world of music. That’s how was created my first Montenegro band, which gathered the best musicians back then. My solo career started 1992 and since then I have released 10 music albums, music videos, had concerts and gigs, and performed at all regional and national music festivals.

The music I sing is mostly pop, pop-rock. My first album name ‘’Kao magija” (Like a magic) was pop, while the latest album The magic of Balkans, is different music style I used to do. It’s very interesting change, more traditional sound from Balkans, let’s say it is urban ethno jazz, which sound shows cultural heritage of Balkan region and its countries.

Good Evening Europe: You have been in the music business for many years, what made you decide, that 2015 was the year for Eurovision?

Knez: It was that call from RTCG that I expected for many years, and now I feel ready to step at the Eurovision stage and share my music with audience in Europe and whole world. I am working on my next music album, so Eurovision is great way to introduce my fans and people who love my music with some huge project like this.

Good Evening Europe: Your song is called “Adio”, in English “Goodbye”, can you tell us more about the song and what the message is?

Knez: Adio is beautiful ballad with very deep story, composed by Zeljko Joksimovic. It is a song about endless love, love that continues to exist no matter of presents and space. Sometimes we people deal hard with the situation when person we love isn’t here beside us.

Good Evening Europe: How did you end up working with Eurovision legend Zeljko Joksimovic?

Knez: Zeljko is the best musician from our region and I knew I can trust him the most with the song. He promised he will write great song for me, and that we can have very successful Eurovision. Zeljko has so much experience with Eurovision, he represented Serbia in 2004 with Lane Moje and 2012 with Nije ljubav stvar. And he wrote a song Lejla for Bosnia & Herzegovina., and Oro for Serbia.

So with musician like him, I believe we can make good position for Montenegro. Adio has his music style but it is combined with my sensibility and my singing, and it is perfect match I believe. I will have five great female vocals with me on the stage, so I believe it will sound great.

Good Evening Europe: Zeljko has never placed outside Top 10 in Eurovision, does this put a special pressure on you?

Knez: I believe in work of Zeljko Joksimovic and he can bring Montenegro this year in good place. Adio is great song and I hope I will deliver message of the song and performance to the audience.

Good Evening Europe: Is there any special significance to “Ruzmarin” in the Balkans? Hari Mata Hari, who participated with a Zeljko-song in 2007, also sings about rosemary, like you do in your entry “Adio”.

Knez: Rosemary is the plant that grows at the Adriatic coast. When you walk down the beaches of Montenegro, you can feel beautiful smell of it. Rosemary is the symbol of love and wedding flower. It is unforgettable part of weddings in our region. It evokes the memories of love and loyalty.

Good Evening Europe: Can you reveal a little bit about your stage performance in Vienna?

Knez: I can only say that will be traditional and elegant. I will have 5 female backing vocalists with me: Dunja Vujadinovic, Ksenija Knezevic, Jelena Vladovic, Lena Kuzmanovic and Jelena Pajic.

Good Evening Europe: Many Eurovision-fans, including me, have a special love for the “Balkan Ballads”. Why do you think the genre has become so popular in Eurovision?

Knez: Thank you. I just think that Eurovision is perfect place for showing your origins and sound of country and region you come from. It is European music contest, full of beautiful diversities and we have great music that is worth of sharing with rest of the world. Balkan Ballad should be our stamp on Eurovision, like Scandinavian countries use to compete with their amazing Electropop and Schlager. We should all be proud of who we are, and where we come from.

Good Evening Europe: Are you a Eurovision-fan and could you reveal a couple of your favorite entries from the history of the contest?

Knez: Yes I am and I watch Eurovision every year with my family and friends at home, just this year I will perform there. 🙂 I love Euphoria by Loreen, Satelite by Lena from Germany. I adore song from Turkey, Athena – For real, Marija Serifovic, ABBA, Emmelie de Forest, Johnny Logan, Secret Garden etc.

Anti Social Media ude med ny single: “More Than A Friend”

Siden d. 7. februar, hvor Anti Social Media vandt det danske Melodi Grand Prix 2015 med “The way you are”, har Philip, Nikolaj, David og Emil haft rygende travlt. De har har optrådt adskillige steder rundt omkring i det danske land, forberedt deres optræden til Wien og så har de også haft tid til at arbejde med ny musik.

Resultatet af sidstnævnte fik vi en smagsprøve på idag. Mandag d. 4. maj er nemlig officiel udgivelsesdato for Anti Social Media’s nye single, som har fået titlen “More than a friend” og som er tilgængelig på hhv. Spotify, Itunes og Deezer. Senere vil singlen også være tilgægelig på TDC Play.

På gruppens Facebook-profil fortæller Anti Social Media idag, hvordan de har knoklet i studiet, for at lave ny musik, lige siden de gik af scenen i Ålborg.

Klar til Wien

Prøve-før-wien — Anti Social Media havde idag sin sidste prøve i DR, forud for afrejse til Wien i næste uge

11. maj – en uges tid inden de fire drenge står på scenen i Wiener Stadhalle – udgiver bandet sin første EP, der vil indeholde i alt seks numre. De 4 drenge er 100% fokuserede på at at udnytte den mulighed, de har fået, også udover Eurovision Song Contest: “Vi forstår, at vi har fået en chance nu, og den griber vi! Vi vil gerne ud at vise, at vi også kan lave noget ny musik, udover Grand Prix-sangen”, forklarer forsangeren Philip til DR.

Udover arbejdet med den nye EP, så har Anti Social Media naturligvis også arbejdet hårdt for at blive klar til Wien. “Der bliver lagt alle kræfter i det! Vi optimerer rigtig meget, hvad vi gjorde før, fortæller Philipi et interview til DR.dk og tilføjer: “Det er ikke fordi, vi skal lave så meget om på det hele, men vi strammer op. Der var ikke noget galt med stilen til det danske Grand Prix; det virkede jo! Så der er jo ingen grund til at lave alt muligt om”.

Idag havde gruppen sin sidste prøve på DR, før de sammen med resten af den danske delegation drager på Østrigs hovedstad Wien d. 11. maj.

OGAE-afstemning 2015: Her er stemmerne fra de danske fans

Igår offentliggjorde OGAE International de første stemmer i den traditionsrige OGAE-afstemning, som kårer årets vinder baseret på stemmer fra alle fanklubberne rundt omkring i Europa og Rest of the World. I skrivende stund har 8 lande afgivet deres stemmer, blandt dem Danmark og herunder er resultatet af de danske fans’ afstemning. Det blev, ikke overraskende, svenske Måns Zelmerlöv, som løb med topkarakteren 12 points. Hermed er Sverige også i top i den samlede afstemning tæt forfulgt af de italienske drenge fra Il Volo og med Estland på en 3. plads.

Interview with Elnur from Azerbaijan: “My life was always a search, I wanted to try everything”

Good Evening Europe talked to Elnur, this year’s Azerbaijani representative.

Good Evening Europe: First of all congratulations on being selected as Azerbaijan’s representative in Eurovision Song Contest 2015 – What does it mean to you to represent your country again?

Elnur: – It’s a great chance for me to be a part of world’s biggest music event one more time, to re-introduce myself in Eurovision family and to show off as solo artist. But the most important thing for me as a musician is to share my song and my emotions with audience, to reach everyone’s heart.

Good Evening Europe: Your song is called “Hour of the Wolf”, can you tell us more about the song and what the message is?

Elnur: – My song is about every person’s struggle for better life, for happiness, for future. This is the fight and the search at the same time, its all about our mistakes and our victories in life. People need to rise above all the cruelties in the world and to find peace. We need to fight no matter what, to give a chance to each other cause ‘every heart deserves a fight’.

Good Evening Europe: What made you decide to come back to Eurovision 7 years after your debut?

Elnur: – I was very surprised when I’ve got an invitation from the Azerbaijani national broadcaster. It was internal selection and they’ve decided that it’s going to be me. Of course, I’ve said yes. This is my second chance and I would be a fool to waste it. As I’ve said before it’s an opportunity to represent myself and my country one more time.

Good Evening Europe: Your 2008 song “Day by day” with Samir was uptempo and more show-influenzed with the angel vs. devil theme, whereas “Hour of the Wolf” is an emotional ballad. Is your 2015 entry more reflective of you?

Elnur: – I think its better suits me now, it speaks thought my heart and my soul, I really feel this song but 7 years ago it was another story, another song.

Good Evening Europe: “Hour of the Wolf” is written by a Swedish team. Do you like Swedish music in general?

Elnur: – In general I like Swedish music, it’s fresh and it’s vibrant.

Good Evening Europe: The last time you participated, you gave Azerbaijan the very first Top 10 result. Which kind of result would make you satisfied this year?

Elnur: – For me Eurovision is not about winning or place in top 10, it’s about participation and sharing my music with this audience. The greatest result for me is to find some special spot in your hearts.

Good Evening Europe: Can you reveal a little bit about your stage performance in Vienna?

Elnur: – I will keep it a secret for now. We are working hard and I don’t want to spoil everything with words. You need to wait a bit and watch it on stage.

Good Evening Europe: You’ve already had one victory this year, when you were named winner of the “Voice of Turkey 2015”. Do you feel that you can benefit from your experiences on the Voice, in your preparations for Vienna?

Elnur: – Every competition is an experience even if you lose one. Of course, I’ve made some notes for myself and I’m going to use them.

Good Evening Europe: You have (among other) a degree in dentistry from the medical school, when did you know that you wanted to be a musician?

Elnur: – Since childhood actually. But my life was always a search, I wanted to try everything so I’ve choose a specialty very distant from music. It is nice, it is great experience and it helped me to find my true calling.

Good Evening Europe: Are you working on any new projects besides Eurovision?

Elnur: – Right now I’m all about Eurovision’s preparations. I don’t know how anyone can find a time to do something else just weeks before the main event. But after Eurovision I will be working on my album.

Good Evening Europe: Are you a Eurovision-fan and could you reveal a couple of your favorite entries from the history of the contest?

Elnur: – To be honest I’m not a Eurovision fan but I love the Contest. I like some exceptional performances on Eurovision stage such as Patricia Kaas in 2009.

Good Evening Europe: Do you have a special message for your fans and the readers of www.Good-evening-europe.dk (Denmark)?

Lørdag aften dannede koncertstedet Melkweg rammerne for den 7. udgave af Eurovision in Concert i Hollands hovedstad Amsterdam. 24 af årets 40 kunstnere deltog i det, som efterhånden er blevet årets største promotion event forud for Eurovision Song Contest. Den udsolgte koncert blev bestyret af de 2 værter Edsillia Rombley (Holland 1998 & 2007) og Cornald Maas (den hollandske kommentator).

9 ud af de 16 artister fra 1. semifinale (excl. Danmark), 10 ud af 17 artister fra 2. semifinale samt 5 ud af de 7 finalister var repræsenteret ved gårsdagens show og fremførte deres bidrag foran 1500 begejstrede fans.

Ifølge fansiden 12points.tv, som var til stede ved showet, så gik aftenens største bifald til Bojana Stamenov (Serbien), Lisa Angell (Frankrig), Nadav Guedj (Israel), Elnur Hüseynov (Azerbaijan), Guy Sebastian (Australien), Måns Zelmerlöw (Sverige) og så til hjemmebanefavoritten Trijntje Oosterhuis fra Holland.

Interview with Israel’s “Golden boy” Nadav Guedj: “we are planning to rock the stage”

The Israeli entry will be performed by Nadav Guedj, who just won ‘Rising Star’ – Israel’s most watched singing competition. His entry “Golden Boy” has been chosen internally and was written by Israeli hitmaker Doron Medalie to fit the artistic capabilities of the 16 year old singer, who will be one of this year’s youngest participants.

Medalie describes the style of the song as a “Middle Eastern Pop anthem” which fuses together contemporary Pop and R&B with the famous Middle Eastern ethnic beat.The Music video for the song shows Nadav in the middle of the sunny city that never sleeps – Tel Aviv – and was shot in different locations such as the rooftop of the local city hall, in the middle of an urban rave that hosted 60,000 dancing participants and at Rabin’s square, a local well known landmark.

Good Evening Europe talks to Nadav Guedj

Good Evening Europe: First of all congratulations on winning “Hakochav Haba (Rising Star)” and the right to represent Israel in Eurovision Song Contest 2015! How did you react when you were named winner of the show?

Nadav: Winning “Hakochav Haba” was followed by a mix of emotions ranging from euphoria to disbelief and now I just really do feel proud that I’ll be representing Israel in the Eurovision song contest.

Good Evening Europe: The name of your entry is “Golden boy” – What is the message of the song and were you involved in the selection ?

Nadav: “Golden boy” is all about a broken hearted young guy who decides to get out of his bad mood by taking a break of three minutes and letting himself loose.

Good Evening Europe: In the song, you promise “to show us Tel Aviv”, before you leave 🙂 How did the city end up in the lyrics? And what would you show us in TelAviv, if Eurovision Song Contest brings us to your home town in 2016?

Nadav: Doron Medalie, The songwriter, decided to place Tel Aviv in the lyrics because it is the city that never sleeps and if you want to party and have fun in Israel, this is where you need to go. For me, Tel Aviv has a dynamic new culture with western as well as eastern influences. The perfect sunny weather and amazing golden beaches are just the cherry on top of it all.

Good Evening Europe: You are one of this year’s youngest artists. How do you prepare for the big show in Vienna and how are you handling the media exposure?

Nadav: I know I’m fortunate. Being only 16 years old I was given a chance of a lifetime to pursue music, visit new places and meet so many different interesting people. This is why I’m super focused on the contest and practically spend every hour I get to prepare for the stage performance.

Good Evening Europe: Can you reveal a little bit about your plans for the stage performance and song presentation in Vienna?

Nadav: Well, you’ll just have to wait and see for yourselves but I can assure you we are planning to rock the stage. I am working with an amazing team that includes the director of “Hakochav Haba” Yoav Tzafir, the Dj and producer Yinon Yahel, the choreographer Claude Dadia, the songwriter Doron Medalie and Creative director Elad Weissman.

Good Evening Europe: Who are your musical inspirations and which musical styles do you listen to?

Nadav: I love to get inspired by a wide range of genres and different kinds of music so I always listen to so many artists. I spend hours in front of my PC in search for new music. Pharell Williams, Timbaland, Jay-Z, Snoop dog and Usher. I listen to their music practically every day.

Good Evening Europe: Several media have compared you to Justin Timberlake – What do you think of that comparison?

Nadav: I think I still have a long way to go before I feel I could be compared to any big star.

Good Evening Europe: Have you been following the Eurovision Song Contest in recent years and do you have any favorites from the contest?

Nadav: I heard many of the songs and my top favorite, right now, is the Australian entry 🙂

Good Evening Europe: Do you have any special message for the readers of www.good-evening-europe.dk (Denmark)

Nadav: I feel that the Eurovision competition is all about celebrating diversity and culture through music. I Hope to Dance together in Vienna with all my Danish brothers and sisters.

Efter at Eurovision-siden Esctoday forleden offentliggjorde deres 3 minutters version af “Grande Amore” som en Aprils nar, så skulle den nu være god nok. 3 minutters versionen af Il Volo’s populære bidrag “Grande Amore” er idag blevet flittigt delt på diverse Eurovision-blogs og på de sociale medier.

Portræt: Eirikur Hauksson – Nyt “Magic Pie” album ude til maj

Eirikur Hauksson er en Eurovision-legende. Islændingen med det karakteristiske lange, røde hår deltog senest i Eurovision Song Contest i 2007 med sangen “Valentine lost”, som er gået hen og blevet en klassiker blandt mange Eurovision-fans. Til maj er han sammen med den norske rockgruppe Magic Pie aktuel med et nyt album. Du får her et portræt af én af Europa’s stærkeste rockstemmer.

Eirikurs karriere som sanger blev skudt i gang i 1981, da han sammen med gruppen Start stod for årets sang på Island med “Sekur”. 3 år senere udgav han sammen med metal gruppen Drýsill, albummet “Welcome to the show”. Udgivelsen af de 2 hits “Gaggó-Vest” og “Gull” i 1985 gjorde Eirikur til et af største navne på Island. Selvom hans største kærlighed var metalgenren, deltog han i flere projekter på den islanske popscene i 80’erne.

Islands første ESC-bidrag

I 1986 debuterede Island i ESC, som blev afholdt i Bergen, og Eirikur var én af kunstnerne bag det islandske bidrag. Island havde valgt trioen ICE bestående af Pálmi Gunnarsson, Helga Möller og Eirikur, som sang “Gleðibankinn”. Islands debut blev ikke mindeværdig rent placeringsmæssigt: 19 points og en 16. plads ud af 20 bidrag blev det til. Det afskrækkede imidlertid ikke den dengang 26-årige sanger, som året efter var tilbage i den islandske finale som en del af gruppen Model med sangen “Lífið er lag”, som sluttede på 2. pladsen.

I 1988 flyttede den islandske sanger til Norge for at være frontfigur i rockgruppen Artch. Under navnet Eric Hawk udgav han sammen med Artch 2 albums, inden de 1993 gik hver til sit.

I 1991 var Eirikur tilbage i Eurovision. Dette år valgte NRK for første gang i historien at droppe Melodi Grand Prix og i stedet vælge sin artist internt. Valget faldt på kvartetten “Just 4 Fun” bestående af Marianne Antonsen, Jan Groth, Eiríkur Hauksson (nu bosiddende i Norge) og Hanne Krogh. Sidstnævnte var i øvrigt den ene halvdel af Bobbysocks, som vandt for Norge i 1985. Med bidraget “Mrs. Thompsen sluttede Eirikur og Just 4 Fun på en 17. plads ud af 22 deltagende lande.

Populær “Inför Eurovision”-ekspert

Fra 2004 til 2007 var Eirikur én af eksperterne i SVT’s meget populære optaktsprogram “Inför Eurovision”, hvor et panel bestående af eksperter fra alle de skandinaviske lande vurderer årets Eurovision sange. Andre medlemmer af panelet har bl.a. været kendte ESC-navne som finske Thomas Lundin, svenske Charlotte Perrelli, norske Jostein Pedersen og programleder Christer Björkman fra SVT. Danmark deltog i panelet fra 2004 til 2007 med bl.a. Jørgen de Mylius og Keld Heick.

I 2007 vandt Eirikur den islandske finale med hele 60% af alle stemmerne. Han sang “Ég les í lófa þínum“, som senere blev oversat til engelsk under titlen “Valentine lost”. På trods af at bidraget var et stort hit hos fansene, så lykkedes det ikke Island at kvalificere sig til finalen og Eirikur udtalte efterfølgende, at han var færdig med Eurovision.

Nyt album med Magic Pie

Siden 2005 har Eirikur optrådt som forsanger i Ken Hensley’s live band “Live Fire”. Mod slutningen af 2007 blev Eirikur desuden annonceret som nyt medlem i den norske rockgruppe Magic Pie. Han udtalte dengang:

“I am very excited about joining in as a member of the Pie-Family. This will be something totally different from what I have done before, but musically I feel very much at home in Magic Pie. I am a fan of bands like Kansas and early Alan Parson´s Project and I look forward to work with Kim (and the others) on some song-writing. Kim´s songwriting is the heart of Magic-Pie and I hope I can tribute to his work – time will tell!

Magic Pie blev dannet i 2001 og har til dato udgivet 3 albums: “Motions Of Desire” (2005), “Circus of life” (2007) og “The Suffering Joy” (2011). Magic Pie består af de 6 medlemmer: Kim Stenberg (guitar, vokal), Jan T. Johannessen (trommer, percussion), Lars Petter Holstad (Bass guitar, vokal), Eirik Hanssen (vokal, guitar) og Erling Henanger (keyboard, vokal) og altså Eirikur Hauksson (vokal, guitar, keyboard).

D. 23. marts blev det annonceret af Magic Pie har indgået en aftale med pladeselskabet Karisma Records om udgivelse af gruppens 4. album “King For A Day”, som kommer på gaden d. 25 maj. Albummet kan forudbestilles her. Magic Pie spiller i den forbindelse en række koncerter i Norden, bl.a. i Oslo, Moss og Göteborg. Du finder datoer og øvrig info her. Senere på året vil Magic Pie’s tidligere albums blive genudgivet via Karisma Records.

Fahrenhaidt er navnet på en berlinsk duo bestående af Andreas John og Erik Macholl, som indtil for en 2-3 måneder siden var ganske ukendte i Danmark. Det var indtil de blev annonceret som en af finalisterne i den tyske udvælgelse “Unser Song für Österreich”. De 2 tyske producere havde nemlig indgået et samarbejde med den danske sangerinde Amanda Pedersen, som i 2013 blev nummer 4 i X Factor.

Hverken Andreas eller Erik er sangere og på deres nye Fahrehaidt cd “Book of nature”, som kom på gaden i februar, samarbejder de med en række solister, deriblandt altså danske Amanda og den canadiske singer-songwriter Alice Merton. Derudover optræder også den danske Eurovision-vinder Emmelie de Forest på cd’en.

Igår var Emmelie de Forest forbi den tyske tv-station ZDF’s morgenshow “ZDF Mo:Ma”, hvor hun sammen med Fahrenhaidt gav en morgenfrisk version af “Wildfire”.

Sverige: Måns’ sceneshow ændres pga. copyright krav

Den svenske tv-station SVT har annonceret, at sceneshowet til Måns Zelmerlövs “Heroes” bliver ændret til Wien. Den officielle video bag årets store favorit er ligeledes fjernet fra Eurovision.tv og erstattet af en video med sangens tekster.

Ændringen sker som følge af en sag omkring copyright. Allerede før den svenske finale var der blandt Eurovision-fans heftig debat omkring Måns’ inspiration til sceneshowet. Især den lille animerede fyr på bænken har store ligheder med figuren i “Alchemy of Light” af a dandypunk, som vi også her på Good Evening Europe delte på vores sociale medier.

Som følge af et krav om ophavsret, ændres figuren nu.

“Ja, jeg var inspireret af karakteren og selv om jeg afviser, at det skulle være plagiat, så kan vi aldrig forudsige udfaldet af en sag. Vi har desuden ikke tiden til det. Da figurens udseende ikke er så vigtig for mig, er det et nemt valg at ændre den“, udtaler instruktøren bag “Heroes” Fredrik “Benke” Rydman til SVT.

Figuren får nyt tøj

I øjeblikket er teamet bag scenshowet i gang med at bearbejde det oprindelige materiale fra Melodifestivalen. Selvom det ikke er en ændring, som det svenske team selv har ønsket og det kræver ekstra arbejde, så er delegationschef Christer Björkman alligevel optimistisk og ser muligheder: “Nu kan vi forbedre bidraget til Wien”, siger han.

Også Måns selv er tryg og afslappet omkring ændringen. “Figuren får nyt tøj. Det er forår nu og han kan jo ikke have samme tøj på, som i februar” siger bookmakerfavoritten til SVT.

Optakt: Eurovisions 60-års jubilæums koncert i London i aften

I aften kl. 19.00 går det store 60-års jubilæums show i luften i Eventim Apollo i Hammersmith i London.

BBC’s legendariske kommentator Graham Norton vil sammen med Eurovision Song Contest 2013-værten Petra Mede præsentere aftenens 3 timer lange show.
I alt 15 tidligere vindere kigger forbi og hylder Europas største musikkonkurrence, som tog sin begyndelse i 1956, hvor den allerførste udgave af Eurovision Song Contest blev afviklet 24. maj i Lugano i Schweiz.

Du kan se en liste over 15 tidligere deltagere herunder sammen med video af deres bidrag. Pauseunderholdningen vil blive identisk med det irske interval act fra 1994 “Riverdance”.
